"It is what it is." 10/30/2008
Mike W. and I both agreed that everyone is saying this phrase now. I hear it mostly at work, but I've seen it in blogs and junk, too. It is becoming my new most hated phrase, but does anyone know where it came from? How did it become so popular?

Quit getting pissed. That saying is what it is. I prefer "What it do?!"

Anything is better than "it is what it is."

Never heard o' it. Ever. However with the economy in the state it iz perhaps people are using it so frequently because they realize we have very little control of thingz in life and worrying about it just wastes energy. Also I didn't notice before but the spell checker in this app iz sweet.

Firefox has one. But it seems like feature that you probably don't need in a browser.

This saying has too many pronouns in it with nothing to refer anaphorically to. What is what what is? On a tangent, I believe the saying God damn it could use some clarification too. We all take it for granted that God knows exactly what we want damned.

I hear that on average once a day in the office. If I talk to the right people, I can get four or five times in fifteen minutes.

Wow. That is pretty impressive. And also very distressing to hear.
