Chapter 1, The Rescue

Before we could even get up the stairs, I heard several thumps and the sounds of a struggle. We sprinted up the stairs and found Sarasvati's brother wrestling with the last thug. He quickly surrendered at the sight of us. And just then, I noticed something. It was the familiar feel of Space magic, but not mine. Someone was scrying on us. I quickly cast a Spacial ward to prevent the scrying, but I was too late. The gunman was looking around, clearly confused. I cast my infrequently-used Mind vision spell, found out his memory had been wiped by someone. This was very disappointing because we had planned on getting some information out of him. With nothing left to do, we took the hostages out of the house and left the guy to do whatever he wanted. We walked outside and realized we were stranded. The gunman who retreated had taken the van, as evidenced by the tire marks on the driveway where he had peeled out. And we couldn't portal out because we had the mother and brother who would cause certain paradox.
